What is this service?
The GSTT Centre for Obesity provides support and treatment for severe weight problems. The centre is made up of a team of consultants, specialist nurses and dietitians, psychologists and psychiatrists. Services offered include:
- Online support groups for patients waiting for weight loss surgery
- Surgery (e.g., bariatric)
- Personalised treatment plans, which could involve:
- discussions with a dietitian and/or psychologist
- individual or group sessions
Criteria
For all services provided by the Centre for Obesity:
- 16 years and over
- BMI > 35 (with risk factors) or BMI > 40 (without risk factors)
- Registered with a GP in South East London
For bariatric surgery only:
- BMI of 30-35kg/m2 with recent onset type 2 diabetes
- BMI of 35-40kg/m2 with another significant disease that could improve if they lost weight (e.g., hypertension, diabetes)
- BMI >40kg/m2
- BMI >50kg/m2 (weight-loss surgery should be considered as first-line treatment)
- Patients that have not managed to maintain weight loss using non-surgical measures (e.g., tier 2/3 weight management programmes

Rejections, DNAs & other Quirks
- To change/cancel an appointment at least 2 days before it is scheduled by using the contact info below
- Patients with suspected cancer should be referred according to the cancer network guidelines via the 2WW office
