Getting started
If you’re reading this, you’ve probably just accepted a job at Penrose Health - congratulations!
You should have already received an email from BambooHR (our HR system) with a link to your new hire packet, which contains your onboarding checklist. If you haven’t had this yet please feel free to drop our HR Administrator an email.
Your onboarding checklist
Your checklist on BambooHR will take you through all of the steps you need to complete for your onboarding and pre-start checks. The rest of this page will talk you through some of the key steps in more detail.
Upload your referees
You need to provide us with two references - one of these must be from your most recent employer or place of education (if this is your first job).
Your employment offer is conditional on us receiving satisfactory references during your onboarding process. If your references are not of a satisfactory standard this will be considered grounds for dismissal or the withdrawal of the offer of employment.
Upload proof of professional qualifications
If you are a member of clinical staff, you need to upload proof of necessary professional qualifications as part of your onboarding checklist. For example, this might be your registration certification with the GMC if you are a GP.
Upload or complete DBS check
The Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is essentially a criminal records check. Your employment offer is conditional on us receiving a satisfactory DBS check (of a level appropriate to your role). If we don’t receive a satisfactory DBS check we will withdraw our offer of employment.
If you have completed an enhanced DBS check within the last 6 months you can upload this certificate, otherwise we will register you for a DBS check with UKCRBs Ltd.
Register with a new GP (if necessary)
You and any family members are not allowed to be current patients of the practice. If you or a family member are a patient of the practice when offered a role, you must register with another practice before you start working with us.
Health assessments & immunisations
We ask that you have certain immunisations to protect yourself, your colleagues, and our patients. When you join us we’ll ask you to confirm which immunisations you’ve had, and check if you need any additional ones before you start.
If you do need any immunisations, one of our Nurses or HCAs will vaccinate you (free of charge). We’ll check during your probation review whether you have had all of the necessary vaccines.
If you don’t have one of the necessary immunisations, and don’t want to be vaccinated, we’ll ask you to sign a waiver declaring that you declined to be vaccinated.
Complete payroll new starter forms
We have two payroll new starter forms - please fill out both of the forms so that our Payroll Team has all of the information that they need to get you paid!
If you have any questions, drop our Payroll Team an email at 📩 payroll.penrosehealth@nhs.net.
Read and sign your contract
This one is fairly straightforward - once we’ve sent you your contract documents (’the statement of main terms of employment’ and ‘confidentiality addendum’), and ‘formal conditional offer letter’, please read them through and eSign them on BambooHR.
Completing your checklist
You don’t need to have completed all of your onboarding and pre-start checks by your first day, but please try to get to all of the steps specified above.
You must upload your references and your Right to Work documentation, and complete your DBS check. If you don’t complete these steps, we may delay your start date. If you do complete these steps but they’re not up to a good enough standard, this will be considered grounds for dismissal or the withdrawal of the offer of employment.
If your onboarding checklist is not completed by the end of your probation period, your probation period may be extended or you may fail your probation.
Once your checklist on BambooHR is complete, you can sit back until Your First Day & First Two Weeks!
