What is this service?
MDFT Clinics provide care for people with diabetes-related foot problems, with the aim of preventing the development of serious issues (e.g. amputation). Clinics are provided across seven sites:
- QEW
- QMS
- Lewisham Hospital
- Princess Royal University Hospital
- Kingβs College Hospital
- GST
- Darent Valley Hospital
Criteria
Patients are eligible if they have been diagnosed with diabetes AND have one or more of the following βactiveβ foot problems:
- Bleeding
- New pain
- Liquid or discharge coming out of the foot
- Cuts or open wounds
- Swelling
- Odd smell or odour
- Change in shape
- Change in colour (particularly, redness)

Rejections, DNAs & other Quirks
- If possible, you should ask the patient to send you a picture of their foot/feet (via AccuRX) so that this can be sent as part of the referral
- All patients should be seen by an MDFT within 24 hours of referral (Monday to Friday)
- The phone number provided can be used for same-day advice on urgent foot problems
