What is this service?
A specialist assessment/treatment service for people with chest pain that might be caused by angina.
The team includes:
- cardiology nurse specialists
- a consultant cardiologist
- cardiac physiologists who perform and analyse the cardiac tests
Criteria
- Referral from GPs in Lambeth and Southwark, for people with:
- blood pressure below 180mmHg systolic and 90mmHg diastolic
- exertional chest pain that suggests new onset angina within the last 2 months
- pain that suggests cardiac ischaemia or has some atypical features but is accompanied by significant cardiac risk
- Patients reviewed by a Cardiologist within the last five years may be accepted.
- Patients with known IHD who are under active follow-up should be referred to their Cardiologist.
Patients suspected of having Acute MI or Unstable Angina should be referred to A&E.

Rejections, DNAs & other Quirks
- Referrals for women under 40 and men under 30 will only be accepted in exceptional circumstances.
