Summary: Spending & receiving petty cash within our surgeries
Who’s it for: Receptionists & Reception Leads
Reception do not take cash anymore from patients, so technically, sites should not be holding petty cash.
Any groceries needed are purchased using the Deliveroo account that site Leads hold.
There is the very rare occasion cash is taken, so the following would then apply.

Spending cash
Receiving cash
Whilst many patients will pay for letters & forms with cards, some may pay with cash
- If a patient pays in cash → a receipt should be issued, marking the date, type of service, amount received, patient’s name, stamped with the practice stamp, and signed by the issuing staff member. A copy should be made so the practice & patient have a copy.
- If too much cash is being stored in the petty cash box, Theresa should be alerted, who will arrange for the cash to be banked
