Skin cancer
The most concerning skin issue that should be seen promptly by our surgeries is skin cancer. This can look different between different coloured skin patients, and on different parts of the body. A mole, growth or change in skin colour is concerning when:
- Changes size, shape, colour or texture
- Starting bleeding, crusting
- Become painful or itchy
- A dark area under the nailbed that was not caused by injury to the nailbed
Acne
Acne is a very common skin issue, especially for adolescents. Local pharmacy teams will be able to recommend a good skincare routine and some topical treatments. If patients have already tried this, then medication may be the next best step. A PA or GP will be able to assist with this.
Pharmacy treatments
A local pharmacist can help with most issues on the scalp or head. This may include:
- head lice
- itchy scalp
- dandruff
- cradle cap in infants.
They will also be able to assist with other treatments
- Athletes foot
- Nappy rash
- Blisters
- Topical treatment for acne
- Insect bites
- Lice
- Scabies
- Warts or verruca
