Bleeding from the mouth can be a medical emergency as it can compromise the airway. The purpose of this card is therefore to identify these patients and send them to A&E, then triage the remaining patients.
High risk patients
There are some patients who are higher risk for bleeding and for not being able to stop bleeding once started. This is why we ask for blood thinning medications and symptoms which would suggest an underlying cancer. Patients with known cancer should be directed down the cancer symptom pathway.
