Crisis
Experiencing a mental health crisis can look different for different people but it can include:
- Being at risk of harm to self or others
- Feeling suicidal
- Anxiety or panic attacks
- Feeling extremely high, fearing others want to harm you, or hearing voices
- Difficulties with communication / withdrawing from friends and family
Someone might have an existing mental health condition and experience a mental health crisis, or it can be something they have never experienced before. It is usually very frightening for the person experiencing the crisis and those around them.
If a patient gives an uncertain answer to an emergency question, it should be considered a ‘yes’ to ensure that they receive immediate care in case they need it. This is why you should tick the emergency symptoms even if the patient answers ‘I’m not sure / I don’t know’
Routine review
All routine mental health related calls will result in a GP or MHN appointment, excluding a medication review which can be handled by the Pharmacy team.
When sending Accurx questionnaires, avoid sending the patient all 4 questionnaires. Choose the 2 most relevant and send. This will be either anxiety & depression, or ASD & ADHD.
