GP Enhanced Access (GPEA) appointments
Primary Care Networks (PCNs) are required to provide enhanced access appointments between the hours of 6.30pm to 8pm, Mondays to Fridays and between 9am and 5pm on Saturdays. They are also required to provide additional capacity for delivering routine services (e.g. cervical smears).
All of this means that if our surgery cannot offer a patient a convenient or urgent time slot to see a clinician, we may be able to arrange a suitable appointment with another surgery in one of our local PCNs.
Booking a GPEA appointment
- First, ensure that the patient is happy to attend an appointment outside of the surgery, and confirm that they give consent for us to share their information with these clinicians.
- Slots can be booked via cross organisational booking. See our page on Cross-Organisational Slots for more info, or the box below for a summary.
- Immediately after booking the appointment, text the patient via Accurx with the location, date and time of the appointment.
β οΈ If the patient declines, they will have to wait for an available appointment with our surgery.
Penrose & Maddock Way
Organisation: βQHS Extended Accessβ
With the enhanced access in these surgeries, the patient must be triaged by one of our clinicians (Nurse, Paramedic) first, before booking into GPEA slots. The QHS doctors will not see any of our patients unless they have been triaged by one of our clinicians first.
The exception to this is for Practice Nurse appointments - they do not need to be triaged before booking this type of appointment (e.g. childhood immunisations, dressing changes, etc.).
β QHS offer appointments during working hours.
Penrose offers on site appointments on Saturdays from 8:30am - 1pm.
