Summary: Identification and storage of paper prescription forms (for emergency use only).
Who’s it for: Reception & clinicians
We use the Electronic Prescription Service (EPS) (EMIS Prescribing), which is the most secure way of issuing a prescription. FP10s should only be used in the event that we are not able to use EPS for any reason (e.g. urgent need during EMIS outage).
FP10 (Paper Prescription Forms)
FP10 forms are the paper prescription forms used by clinicians for handwriting prescriptions.
In the wrong hands, these forms can be used fraudulently, so they should be securely stored and only given out to clinicians who can legally prescribe.
- They should not be left unattended or unsupervised.
- They should be kept in a locked cabinet within a lockable room or area.
- They should only be used on the rare occasion that we are not able to use EPS.
Storage of FP10 in each surgery
Although only clinicians are permitted to use FP10 forms, Reception staff are responsible for knowing where they are stored and how to access them for clinicians.
