Getting started

DXS should automatically open when you open Optum. If it doesn’t, please get in touch with the IT team for help.

Navigating DXS via the toolbar

Anytime you login to Optum, you’ll see the DXS box shown above. By clicking and dragging the box, you can position it wherever you like on your screen!

Clicking the home button will take you to the DXS homepage, where you can find the DXS toolbar:

The toolbar is divided into various tabs. The main four are:

1️⃣ Patient Education

1. Click the ‘Education’ tab from the toolbar. This will open the following page:

2. Using the ‘All Leaflets’ box at the left hand side of the page, you can view all available patient leaflets
3. Alternatively, you can search for a specific leaflet by entering a keyword in the ‘Search’ box and hitting enter (or the binoculars!)

2️⃣ Professional

Referral forms

• When you open a referral form, it will auto-fill with the details of the patient that is currently open, and the surgery information
• You can see the current patient open in the top-right corner of DXS

• If you do not have a patient open, this yellow bar will appear at the top of the form

• Click the ‘Email’ box to send the form directly to the service provider
• Click the ‘Save’ box to save the referral as a draft for completion later

1. Click the ‘Forms’ tab from the toolbar. This will open the ‘Inbox’ folder. Here, you will find all referrals awaiting an action (e.g., saving back to the patient’s record).

You will only see referrals that have been assigned to you. To see forms assigned to other users, use the ‘Show All’ button to the left of the Inbox.
2. Click the ‘Complete’ folder to open all finalised referral forms. These are sorted by date.

3. Alternatively, you can use the search bar to search for saved referral forms based on:
• Patient name
• NHS number
• Title of the referral form
• Name of the user who added the form

Additional Icons

The remaining icons in the DXS toolbar can be used for the following:

Changing DXS Server

Currently, DXS can only provide information for one borough at a time (Southwark, Lewisham or Lambeth).

If you are working across multiple sites and need to change server, follow these steps:

1. Open the File Explorer on your PC (this can be done using the shortcut ‘Windows logo key + E’).

2. Copy this file path ‘C:\Program Files (x86)\DXS’ into the File Explorer search box, and hit enter on your keyboard.

3. Open the file ‘DXS.cfg’ (in notepad). Delete the text and replace using the purple text beneath the appropriate borough. Save the file.

4. Re-open EMIS Web. Once the DXS toolbar appears, select the correct borough from the dropdown menu.
