What is PCPEP?
When you join Penrose Health, you’ll be expected to undertake the PCPEP course through the CPPE as a mandatory requirement of your employment. You’ll be required to sign a training agreement before enrolling - see our Learning & Development page for more information. Then, you will be supported with your enrolment onto the course by your Lead.
When you start the pathway, you’ll be assigned an education supervisor from the CPPE, and the Clinical Education and Effectiveness Lead will act as your supervisor within Penrose Health. They’ll be responsible for overseeing your progress throughout the course.
Modules & Assessments
The PCPEP modules range from tutor facilitated workshops to informal learning communities, online courses and self-study. You’ll need to attend a range of webinars, residentials courses, study days, education supervisor sessions and assessments as part of the pathway. If you want understand more about CPPE, you can have a look at their website and read the FAQs.
Study Leave
The 28 days of protected study time is for the group learning during the pathway. This includes residential courses, study days, workshops, online workshops and group tutorials with an education supervisor.
The 28 days are inclusive of the 40 hours of annual study leave time allocated to you by Penrose Health, and must be used to attend the CPPE’s learning programmes. If you haven’t used all 28 days of study leave by the end of the 18 month course, you will not be able to carry over these days into the rest of the year (except in extenuating circumstances, which will be agreed on a case-by-case basis).
In addition to this protected study time, you will need to commit to self-directed study in your own time. We estimate that you will need 25 to 30 days of self-directed learning time during the pathway (though this will vary depending on prior knowledge and learning style).
The total time commitment for each learner is estimated to be about three days per month (an average of 1.5 days per month for group learning and activities, and a similar amount for self-directed learning).
Requesting Study Leave Days
To request study leave for the programme, use the training request form to request time be blocked with at least 1 month’s notice before the study leave date. This will allow the rota team to have enough time to block out your books for you to attend your learning programme.
