Summary: This page describes how to access and action lab results using EMIS.
Whoβs it for: GPs
Our Clinical Admin team are responsible for managing incoming lab results, and will file normal results. Please make sure that you are checking and actioning abnormal results assigned to you on a daily basis. You can access results via the Lab Reports function of EMIS Workflow Manager.
Accessing Lab Reports
- Login to EMIS
- Click on the EMIS ball (top left corner), and navigate to βWorkflowβ, then βWorkflow Managerβ
- Select βWorkflow Viewβ, then click the βMy Tasks + Deputising Forβ option
- To the left of your screen, select the βLab Reportsβ tab
Actioning Lab Results
- Within the βLab Reportsβ tab, open the βInboxβ
- Check lab results allocated to you, or in the global inbox
- Please contact patients for all results that need action:
- If the result involves a very brief conversation, consider calling the patient while you are checking their results.
- If you feel able to, use Accurx for minor abnormalities that might otherwise end up as a phone appointment (e.g. tests that need a repeat in a few months, longstanding minor abnormalities already investigated) or delegate to an AHP on-site.
- If the result requires an appointment β use Accurx to ask the patient to book an appointment to discuss their results, specifying routine or urgent, phone or F2F. If you're unable to use Accurx, please task reception to book them in. Please do not file the result with a note to say 'needs appointment' as this may not be picked up by the patient or another staff member.
See our Lab Reports (Path Links) page for more information, or contact the Clinical Admin team.
