Introduction
24HR AMBP is a method used to measure blood pressure continuously over a 24-hour period. It is frequently used on patients with:
- suspected white coat hypertension
- uncontrolled hypertension
- newly diagnosed hypertension (to allow initiation of medication)
The Appointments
If a patient is identified as having high blood pressure (140-179 / 90-119 mmHg) by any member of our clinical or non-clinical team, they should be added to the ‘AMBP Waiting List’ Surgery Log on Microsoft Teams (by sending a task to the reception team to add the patient).
Then, the reception team should book an appointment for an AMBP with an HCA / Nursing Associate. Two appointments are required for a 24HR AMBP: one to fit the device, and one >24 hours later to remove it.
The AMBP which we use at the practice is called a Mobil-O-Graph. For more information on this device, please visit the website.
1️⃣ Fitting the device
- Prepare the AMBP device as per the user guide below:
- Place the device in the pouch, and fit the correct sized cuff to the patient.
- Take a manual measurement by pressing the Start / Stop button on the front of the device.
- Once complete, the patient can leave with the AMBP fitted (see image).

2️⃣ Removing the device
- Remove the cuff from the patients arm.
- Collect the results as per the ‘Downloading the Results’ section of the user guide.
- Save the report (PDF) to the patients EMIS profile and, if above the target 140/80 mmHg, task a doctor / pharmacist to book a follow-up with the patient.
